It always amazes me that I hear cd’s all the time and it doesn’t do it for me and I kinda toss them to the side. Then from some other source, or by accident, I hear a song I haven’t heard yet or just something I guess I wasn’t ready to hear the first time round….and BANG!! What was I thinking, how did I not love this from the first note. All the lost time that I could have been soaking this in…gone…just gone. Anyhow….this happens all the time, it really shouldn’t surprise me anymore. On this note, I’m going to try and do a year in review type thing of cd’s I really liked. Some aren’t brand new, but maybe they were new to me…or maybe I just decided to like them the fourth time around. Before I begin the list, I’ve got a couple of new songs maybe you can listen to while you read….and just maybe you like the first time around. Two of them fall into the “I didn’t like at first”(or didn’t hear correctly), and two of them were instant love. I was also lucky enough to find two of them on the same poster….excellent. British Sea Power – Atom
Blitzen Trapper – Wild Mountain Nation
Vampire Weekend – A-punk
Of Montreal – Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse

Band of Horse – Windows Blues
So I realized a wile ago that I have completely shifted gears in musical interests. Or, should say what I feel like hearing. Lately its been Americana, Alt Country(I feel cool throwing that title out), and more Indie stuff than ever before. I’m not really sure who to blame for this preference revolution. I can think of a few females, and a few breaks (both good and bad), but maybe I’m just getting old or something. Damn I hope that’s not it.
I’m always listening, reading about, and basically digging for new music and whatever else is cool that I can find. I’ll be the first to admit that while I’m open to all types of stuff, I also have pretty ingrained biases and am quick to judge. I’m working on this and hopefully one day I’ll get past it.
But for now it is what it is.
On that note, three cd’s I’ve been listening nonstop for a while now. I’ve talked about a couple of them before, but not really in any detail. They are listed in order of personal preference, but I wouldn’t be writing about it if I wasn’t already addicted, so that should count for something….right?
As always. My pick on poster art accompanying each artist.

I’ve been mentally punishing myself since yesterday for forgetting that the new album, Cease to Begin, from the Band of Horses came out yesterday. However, it was a nice surprise. I’ve had plenty to say about them in the past, and once I’ve properly perused this new album, I’m sure I will have plenty more to say. But until I have properly assimilated this new material, I’ll just leave with these tidbits and promise that I’ll get back to you. And as always, POSTER ART by Ben Wilson!
